Roots presents Tinderbox

We are please to announce our first act for our new monthly folk and roots club, this month will feature Tinderbox plus special guests to be announced.

Tinderbox are an acoustic duo featuring Monique Houraghan with a distinctive ‘honey-like’ vocal, and Dan Tucker with an intricate finger style guitar technique.

After four creative years living in Dublin between 1997 and 2001 the duo spent two years travelling the world playing their music. On their return to the UK in late 2004 Monique and Dan settled in Bournemouth.

2007 to 2010 have seen Tinderbox perform a number of headline shows to capacity crowds. Additionally, they have played support sets for high profile acts including Cara Dillon, Jon Allen, Corinne West, Kris Drever, Ben’s Brother, Ralph McTell, Emily Maguire, Uiscedwr, Chris Difford and Megson.

May 2008 saw the release of Tinderbox’s second studio album. ‘Golden’ was launched at Centre Stage in Bournemouth, with the band performing to a record-breaking audience.

Maverick Magazine recently described ‘Golden’ as “Quite inspirational really…a masterpiece”. Maverick went on to describe Tinderbox as being “Poised to ignite the acoustic…world”. Acoustic Magazine featured a review of ‘Golden’ in their August 09 edition labelling the music ‘Lovely, hooky and mellow’

Please see Next Show (to the right) for more information on dates and tickets!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Exciting Announcement!

As some of you may know, we’ve been talking with the venue Jagz in Ascot for some time about the possibility of staging an event there. Well we’re now pleased to announce that every third Wednesday starting on September 15th, we will be staging ‘ROOTS’.

The new ‘ROOTS’ night will be a continuation of the work we do at Folking Live. We will be able to bring in not only the best in young national talent, but also a few more recognisable names on the scene. We’re in talks with a few as we speak so watch this space…..

However, the first show will likely be a top notch showcase event, featuring at the very least 2 of the best headline acts we’ve had at Folking Live over the last 3 years, as well as a new name to some of you. All will be revealed very soon – but we are extremely excited.

We’re very keen to keep the cost of the Jagz night similar to that of Folking Live, so in the main expect 5/6 quid for entry - however you’ll be unsurprised to know that dependant on artists etc, the prices will fluctuate. Again, these details will be passed to you as soon as we know.

All I’ll say is, please keep Wednesday 15th September free for the launch night…….and once you’ve enjoyed that, it’ll only be a week until the new season of Folking Live! What more could you want!

Keep enjoying the summer – and hopefully we’ll see a few familiar faces in September.

Date: Thursday 5th August 2010

Time: 8pm

Cost: Free Entry

Scattered Few sign to Artree!

Artree are pleased to announce the signing of Reading Acoustic duo Scattered Few.

Scattered Few are moody, atmospheric and mesmerising. Creating a sound that even the most discerning of musicians would find hard to pinpoint. And with influences ranging from Zero 7 to Metallica, it’s easy to see why. This Reading based acoustic duo break through modern classifications of music, creating a totally unique sound palette with riffs ranging from soothingly soft ambience to mellow psychedelia with heart warming vocals.

The beautifully arranged ‘Fields of Sleep’ for example, is nothing short of a masterpiece. So simple in its composition yet so captivating in its execution, this band are undeniably a class act.
